Christchurch Electrical has been an institution in Canterbury for over 65 years and whilst we are always looking forward to anticipate and respond to our client’s changing needs, its nice to take a look back every now and again.
Stepping back to 1998 we remember what Christchurch Electrical was like. Some things haven’t changed, the company’s roots still remain in providing design, installation and maintenance services to domestic, commercial and industrial customers with a strong emphasis on service and that was the core foundation in 1998.
At that time, all of the service technician’s were equipped with hand held radios, I’m sure the team today is pleased that technology has stepped forward to cell phones – a little easier to carry and better at taking photos!
In 98 the team were working on the construction of a new cell block for the Paparua Prison and the new Farmers building in downtown Christchurch, installing lighting for the greyhound track at Addington Raceway and refitting six Shell service stations. They were also developing a pool of apprentices, continuing to grow the company’s skill set. Rex Prebble was Service Manager, shortly afterwards becoming and remaining Managing Director.
What else was happening in NZ in 98? No Matter What by Boyzone was the number one music single, Jenny Shipley was Prime Minister, Sarah Ulmer took off with Gold at the Commonwealth Games and Te Papa museum in Wellington was opened.
